We get a tourist bus for Chitwan, Pokhara and Lumbini from Kaldhara, Nayabazar. Kaldhara is 10 minutes walk from Thamel. You can either take a taxi if you have bigger luggage or walk to Kaldhara, Nayabazar. The buses are in the queue. You need to book your seats by the travel agency in Kathmandu prior to the departure and they will provide you the tickets. There will be different luxury tourist buses operated by different transport companies like Global Vacation, Greenline Travels, Jagadamba Travel etc.
What will be the facilities in the bus?
We will get a comfortable folding seat. Even some buses have such seats that relax you with a massage. Dustbins, a bottle of water, AC, toilets are the common facilities in the bus. Even some buses have light snacks facilities too.
How often do the buses stop on the way?
The tourist buses will stop for 3-4 times on the way including toilet breaks, lunch break and other snack breaks. If it is required, you can tell them to stop you for few minutes but you should not trouble others.
Can we carry some snacks on the bus?
Yeh, you are free to carry any type of snacks on the bus in case you go hungry. Actually, we are going to have Nepali dish for our Lunch on the way. You won’t have various choices of food items on the way. So, you’d better carry some fruits and light snacks to satisfy your immediate hunger.

The distance from Kathmandu to Chitwan is 97.7 Km. It takes 5-6 hours to get Chitwan from Kathmandu including all kind of breaks on the way. The distance from Kathmandu to Pokhara is 203.9 km. It takes 6-7 hours to get Pokhara from Kathmandu. The distance from Kathmandu to Lumbini is 258.7 km. It takes 8-9 hours to get Lumbini from Kathmandu. However, sometimes, we may get heavy traffic on the way and may take longer hours to get our destinations.
How is the condition of the road from Kathmandu to Chitwan, Kathmandu to Pokhara and Kathmandu to Lumbini?
The highway or the roads you are going used is not like the standard road you travel in your country. It is a highway but in fact, looks like a country road. But, the drivers are professional and experienced to drive on this kind of road. In some portions of the road, we will encounter the rough and graveled road with dust. Thus, we do not suggest aged to take tourist for Chitwan, Pokhara and Lumbini from Kathmandu. Alternatively, they can go with domestic flight.
How much is the cost for a tourist bus from Kathmandu-Chitwan, Kathmandu – Pokhara and Kathmandu-Lumbini?
There is a variety of cost depending on the facilities provided. The top luxury bus for Kathmandu to Chitwan costs Rs. 700-1000, Kathmandu – Lumbini costs Rs. 800-1500 and Kathmandu – Pokhara 700-1200. But the normal cost is Rs. 800 for Chitwan, Rs. 1200 for Lumbini and Rs. 1000 for Pokhara from Kathmandu.
