Everest 3 High Pass Trek

The Everest three pass trek is the ultimate experience of Everest that covers a clockwise variation of the three high passes. This trekking trail is more challenging than the normal trekking in the Everest region which includes the three high passes called- Renjola pass, Chola pass, and Kongmala pass, each over 5,000m high. This trail covers exquisite views of mountains, local Sherpa culture, ample natural beauty, and umpteen adventure. Not to lose sight of the fact that Everest three pass is the most challenging tea house trekking in the world.

The Everest three pass trekking is the ultimate and complete trekking encounter in the Everest region for experienced hikers. Though there is no exact requirement of climbing and hiking skills for this trip, definitely a tough and challenging trail filled with a lot of adventure. Crossing three high passes linking the four different valleys of Dudhkoshi, Gokyo, Khumbu, and Imja Tse. This trek usually began from the gateway of Everest and the most extreme airport in the world - Lukla airport. Generally, it takes 30min scenic and thrilling flight from Kathmandu/Ramechhap Airport. Later, trekkers headed north along the classical trek to Namche Bazaar. From Namche, the route goes west as it splits from the main trek and heads up the Dudh Kosi valley. Here, you will cross the first of the three passes - the Renjola pass (5,360m). After crossing the high point, the trail descends to the paradisal Gokyo Lakes and explores more in the Gokyo valley.

The trail turns towards the east after you finish your adventurously pleasant hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m). You will cross the Ngozumpa glacier before crossing the second pass of three passes - Chola pass (5,420m). The completion of the second pass offers to explore the intricacies of Everest Region life which includes the Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and the most popular and famous viewpoint surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains, valleys, glaciers, and icefalls - Kala Patthar viewpoint (5,545m). The final pass - Kongmala pass (5,545m) goes through the Lobuche village, which later meets in Dingboche village in a regular Everest base camp trek that will take you down to Lukla town, where the trek ends. All the beautiful journey makes this three high pass trekking as one of the incomparable and unforgettable trekking experiences in Nepal.

Highlights of Everest Three Pass Trek

Challenging three high passes (Renjola, Chola, and Kongmala)

Cross three aggressive high passes in your three-week treks in the Everest region is the most rewarding feature of this trekking. You will be above 5,000m five times during this trek, which includes three passes, Renjola pass, Chola pass, Kongmala pass along with two amazing viewpoints - Kalapatthar and Gokyo Ri. This trek offers more unspoiled valleys of the Khumbu region approaching Renjola and Chukhung. The top of this three-pass offers astonishing views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and many more stunning mountain peaks.

Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri

In this three high pass trek, Gokyo valley offers much more as compared to other valleys in the Khumbu region. It has lakes, a viewpoint, and glaciers which are surrounded by snow-capped mountains. This turquoise lake is the hidden gem of the Himalayas and the charm and heart of the region. Gokyo Valley has six different lakes (from 4,700m to 5,000m elevation variation) which are among those freshwater lakes in the highest elevation. Gokyo Ri is the most popular and famous viewpoint in the world as well as in the kingdom of trekking. This viewpoint offers 360-degree panoramic views of giant snow-capped mountains, lakes, glaciers, and an amazing Himalayan range. You can experience the breathtaking view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Pumori, and many neighboring mountains. Experiencing sunset and sunrise over those mountains from the top of these two viewpoints are the most precious moments for a travel enthusiast.

Sherpa Culture & Tibetian Buddhism

Trekkers will get a fascinating insight into unique sherpa traditions, cultures, and lifestyles. Everest region is the home of the Sherpa people and their practices, tradition, and uniqueness are simply the best things to explore on this trip. Prayers flags, stone walls, monasteries, chortens, mani walls, and small stupas are the correspondence of living Tibetian Buddhism. You will encounter the oldest and most popular Buddhist monastery in Tengboche and getting a blessing from the Lama Rinpoche adds more spiritual energy to your trip.

I recently completed a trek with 4 mates through Luxury Holiday Nepal. We Flew into Lukla and trekked from there to Gokyo (climbing Gokyo Ri)and up the valley to Everest Base Camp and Kala Pattar. The organization of the trek was very good, the assistance we received from our guide. They were meticulous in preparing us for the altitude we had to face. Our acclimatization was very carefully managed for climbing Gokyo Ri, Kala Pathar and their attention summit day was excellent and effort in getting us out of EBC the end of our trek. The guide did everything possible to ensure that we arrived back in Kathmandu for our international flights. Next time I travel to Nepal I will be arranging my trek through Luxury Holiday Nepal and requesting the same guide.

Last October was ours because me and my friend Jenifer had Everest trek. We chosed little different route to reach Everest Basecamp, so we made Everest base camp trek with three passes- Renjo la, Cho la and Kongma la passes. OMG I can't believe that we had completed everest trek. This trek was so amazing where we had lots of fun and moments to share with others. We reached several views points where we were lost in its huge beautiful views of Himalayas. We were in Everest National park, we visited monasteries and wow it was so wandering monastery in Tengbuche. Reaching to ups and getting downs all was so exciting but made us tired too. There was our Guide mr. Pasang Sherpa and few porters also in our team. They helped me so much and especially while I am so tired with high ascending. We tasted some Sherpa foods and beverage while returning from Lukla. Every things was so nice. We were in luxurious Dwarika’s Hotel in Kathmandu. Luxury holidays were so great that they even managed our flight to lukla in that busy time. I would like to say thank you LHN and team and I recommend everyone to visit Nepal through LHN. Thank you!

Luxury Holidays Nepal has well organized our Everest 3 high pass trek. Their hospitalities start from a warm welcome at Kathmandu International airport. Next day our guide “Ram” checked our trekking gear and he recommend some necessary trekking equipment. Our trek starts from thrilling adventures flight to Lukla. We enjoyed amazing view from Syangboche. The Renjola Pass, Kongma-La and Cho -La pass has a lot of snow and ice which made us hard to walk but slowly we did it to the top. I found quite adventures of three pass among lots of trekking I did in different country. The Luxury Holidays Nepal was so good the whole way along.

Our guide “Ram” was fantastic. He laughed at all our jokes and was extremely professional. He was also born in Himalayas and he knows about local culture, people and place of Khumbu region. Our Porters Suraj and Ramesh was superman. Everything was so well organized by Luxury Holidays Nepal, we were always well feed, the tea-houses were of great standards and everyone was always smiling. I highly recommend “Luxury Holidays Nepal”. You have chance to explore the mountains with Luxury Holidays Nepal.

Trekking Grade:
The Everest base camp trip is a fairly challenging journey. It is moderately long trekking which goes into the country's most elevated mountain. So travelers require more energy and the trip is actually tiring which includes 5-8 hrs. (approx.) of walking per day on the rocky edges. It doesn't require previous experience, but you must be physically healthy and better if you do regular exercise. If you love walking at high altitude, then this trip is for you.

Tips:
A general rule of thumb for tipping is from USD 40 to USD 70 per Traveler, depending on the length of the trek. Porters do appreciate a personal tip, although it is not uncommon for the Guide and his Porters to pool the tips they have collected before splitting it amongst themselves, with the Guide is getting a little more for overseeing the welfare and safety of both the Travelers and Porters as a whole. That said, this is just a guide and you may tip however much you think is appropriate for the services rendered which made your trip a memorable one.

Note:
1. Please note that often the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight gets delayed by a few hours or may even be canceled for one, two, or more days due to unfavorable weather conditions. Such conditions may arise even in the best seasons. Hence, in such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or end of the trek or even both! We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the next flight for you. We also organize Helicopter rescue in such conditions, if it is available and upon request by our clients. The helicopter charges around USD 3500 and it can lift 4-5 persons per flight. Still, we suggest you be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible to come with some extra days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything runs smoothly and you still have extra days then you may even engage yourself in optional activities that can be arranged by Luxury Holidays Nepal upon request. The optional activities may include visiting places/landmarks of your choice, adventure sports, shopping, etc.

In case the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of the trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip such as a trek in the Annapurna, Langtang, or any other region. If you are not interested in the alternative trip and would rather wait for your original preferred trip, you are welcome to wait in Kathmandu for as many days as it takes to get a flight to Lukla. However, please note that there will be no refund if you lose time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do a short trek later due to time limitation. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you accommodation and lunch in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of the flight delay/cancellation after finishing of the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transportation, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.

2. During the trip; weather, local politics, transport or other factors, that are beyond our control can result in a change of itinerary. It is however very unlikely that the itinerary would be substantially altered. If alterations are necessary the leader will decide what is the best alternative taking into consideration the best interests of the whole group. Where a change does occur, we do everything we can to minimize its effect.
