Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek

Gokyo valley trek is one of the most picturesque valleys in the foothill of the world’s highest mountains. This magical valley lies towards the west of the most famous Khumbu region. Gokyo valley trek is also famous for its unique and distinctive trails, diverse nature and cultures, beautiful valley and the hills, etc. the extensive pastures for yaks to graze during summer and the pristine turquoise lakes are simply breathtaking in this Gokyo lake trek. Trekking to Gokyo valley means exploration of the hidden gem of the Himalayas and the adaptation of the beauties of the Everest region. Gokyo valley can be visited after or before the famous trekking trail Everest Base Camp by adding another four or five days to the itinerary.

Trek to Gokyo valley starts from 30min dramatic and scenic flight from Kathmandu/Manthali to the world’s most extreme airport - Lukla Airport. Afterward, you will begin to experience serenity and wilderness in Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next, you will arrive at Namche, the most popular tourist and trade hub in the Khumbu region, which is also called the Sherpa capital.  The traditional Tibetan market, Sherpa cultural museum, Everest View Point, and the cuisines at modern hotels and restaurants will make you delighted at Namche Bazar. Since Gokyo valley is our main destination, the trail goes up the Everest trail only as far as the teahouses at Kenjoma. From this point, the trail goes up towards the Mongla pass before dropping steeply back down to the bank of Imja River in a normal Everest base camp trail. The path passes through the rhododendron, oak, and pine forest along with stunning waterfalls leads you to the beautiful village Dole and Machhermo. The final step up to Gokyo goes a few teahouses and up the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier, which is also considered the largest glacier in Nepal. Finally, you will reach above the moraine and you can experience the crystal clear freshwater lakes. This trek is also great for exploring the Himalayan cultures and traditions. You reach the Himalayan settlements, interact with the peoples and acknowledge the lifestyle of the Mountain peoples. You are mesmerized when you are treated very well by those kind people.

As I found trekking in Nepal is so amazing and more to that Gokyo and Gokyo Ri trek is more wonderful, we booked private trek with Luxury Holidays Nepal. They had arranged everything very nice. Hotels in kathmandu, tea houses in Everest, everything was so nice. We had one trekking Guide and one Sherpa. Both of them was very helpful with us. Guide was so experienced and professional and Sherpa was also so strong. When we were in the trekking , there was a snowfall. We were so lucky that we got a chance to enjoy the Everest snowfall.

Thank you   Luxury Holidays Nepal and team!

I am so happy that your team was there to make my Nepal trekking so wonderful. The Guide was so nice. He had assisted us very well all during the trekking.  He had lots of things to share with us and lots of experience and survival tricks that were so useful while we were in high altitude. The porter was also very good. he helped and supported us in carrying our luggage and backpacks.

Despite the crowd and mass visitors, we had nice rooms and guesthouses in Everest Region. from cars for sightseeing to hotels and guesthouses, everything was very nice. the most beautiful part of our Gokyo Trek was the amazing view of Mt. Everest and other neighboring colossal peaks. Overall the trip was excellent and all efforts deserve the 5 out of 5 rating.

Once again I would like to thanks the luxury holidays Nepal, its team and the staff who made my trekking in Everest Region an incredible.

A general rule of thumb for tipping is from USD 40 to USD 70 per Traveler, depending on the length of the trek. Porters do appreciate a personal tip, although it is not uncommon for the Guide and his Porters to pool the tips they have collected before splitting it amongst themselves, with the Guide is getting a little more for overseeing the welfare and safety of both the Travelers and Porters as a whole. That said, this is just a guide and you may tip however much you think is appropriate for the services rendered which made your trip a memorable one.

1. Please note that often the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight gets delayed by a few hours or may even be canceled for one, two, or more days due to unfavorable weather conditions. Such conditions may arise even in the best seasons. Hence, in such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or end of the trek or even both! We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the next flight for you. We also organize Helicopter rescue in such conditions, if it is available and upon request by our clients. The helicopter charges around USD 3500 and it can lift 4-5 persons per flight. Still, we suggest you to be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible to come with some extra days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything runs smoothly and you still have extra days then you may even engage yourself in optional activities which can be arranged by Luxury Holidays Nepal upon request. The optional activities may include visiting places/landmarks of your choice, adventure sports, shopping, etc.

In case the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of the trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip such as a trek in the Annapurna, Langtang, or any other region. If you are not interested in the alternative trip and would rather wait for your original preferred trip, you are welcome to wait in Kathmandu for as many days as it takes to get a flight to Lukla. However, please note that there will be no refund if you lose time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do a short trek later due to time limitations. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you with accommodation and lunch in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of a flight delay/cancellation after finishing the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transportation, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.

2. During the trip; weather, local politics, transport or other factors, which are beyond our control can result in a change of itinerary. It is however very unlikely that the itinerary would be substantially altered. If alterations are necessary the leader will decide what the best alternative is taking into consideration the best interests of the whole group. Where a change does occur, we do everything we can to minimize its effect.
