Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek

Island peak climbing with EBC is an exemplary combo of trekking and mountain climbing that provides you the full experience of climbing an equivalent highest peak of the mountains of the region as well as a test to begin your climbing peak of the highest levels. English Mountaineer Eric Shipton named it Island Peak in 1953 because it resembles an island on a sea of ice. Standing at an elevation of 6189m the peak is surrounded by the glaciers of 7000m’s and 8000m’s. The peak is best for people wanting to experience more thrill and adventure than a regular set of trekking.

Island Peak, also known as Imja Tse, a peak residing in Sagarmatha National Park of the Himalayas of Eastern Nepal is one of the most popular adventurous trekking routes in Nepal for climbing the Himalayas. Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek is an awesome and fantastic experience. The summit is spectacular and attractive with a highly glaciated west face rising from the Lhotse Glacier. The peak can be easily conquered by physically fit trekkers with little or no experience in mountain expeditions.

The Journey to the Island peak begins on a flight to the amazing airport in Khumbu Region, Lukla Airport. A brave Sherpa who is part of your trekking in the Everest region will be accompanied to you. The route passes through UNESCO world heritage sites aka Sagarmatha National Park with a wide variety of flora and fauna, wildlife, and endangered animals. Island peak climbing not only offers an unforgettable climb but also provides some awesome and spectacular views of the great Himalayas in the Everest Region. Mountaineers have an amazing and magical panoramic view of the Khumbu region and of giant mountains, Mt. Nuptse, Mt Lhotse, Lhotse middle peak, and Lhotse Shar in the north making half a circle, Mt. Makalu in the Eastside and Mt. Baruntse and Amadablam in the south.

The trekking also passes through Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar for the top angle views of Mount Everest and other surrounding High peaks. After descending after summiting the Island Peak you will have an experience of Sherpa Community, Tibetan Monasteries, cultural and traditional sites of Sherpa village, Hillary School playing ‘Hide and Seek’ inside the clouds, prayers flags, The Yeti Scalp, and many more.

Highlights of Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek

Imja Peak (Island Peak)

Surrounded by the ice glaciers formed from the mightiest 7000m and 8000m peaks the island peak resembles an island in ice that’s what it is named after. The Island peak at 6189m is an adventurous climb due to the glaciers. The peak is not as technical but requires a lot of strength and courage to overcome the stiffness of the peak as well as the ready-to-capture glaciers.

Panoramic views of mountains

The peak lies just in the laps of the mightiest and gigantic peaks, which makes the peak an ideal destination for summiteers who want to feel the greater Himalayan peaks, however, are starting as climbers on those peaks. The location of the peak gives you astounding views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and other 7000m+ peaks.

In route to EBC

This peak is an absolute bargain because of the multiple destinations you will be covering on one summit, one of them being the most popular trekking destination in the world namely Everest Base Camp. Everest base camp trekking is a long destination in itself, however, during island peak climbing, you can encounter bases residing, camps, and tents on Everest base camp.

Best time to climb Island Peak

Unlike any other peak to climb, Island peak Autumn and Spring season is considered the best period. The weather during this time of year is stable and more visible. The chances of summiting during this period of time are very high due to the favorable conditions required for climbing a peak.

We are greatly indebted to Luxury Holidays Nepal for helping us to fulfill our dream of Island Peak Climbing Expedition. We thought Island peak climbing was out of possibility when looking at the prices of the other companies. We are so grateful that Luxury Holidays Nepal made it possible. We arrived in Kathmandu on 10th October 2016 with six of my friends. After one day stays in Kathmandu in Gokarna Forest Resort we fly to Lukla. It was fantastic scenic Himalayan flight provided beautiful close up of view higher Mountain range. As soon as we arrived in Lukla airport our trekking began. At first, we trekked to Kalapathar. After enjoying the great view of Mt. Everest at Kalapathar we headed towards Chhukung. We stayed in Chukkung for 2 days for acclimatization and preparation for climbing. Our climbing guides taught us basic climbing techniques which helped us very much. Then we started to climb Island peak. Although our all team did not succeed the whole peak climbing but it was a great experience though. We enjoyed it very much. We do not have any comments on the management of Luxury Holidays Nepal. We highly appreciate the leading style and the management of Mr. Ram. All the climbing guides were highly experienced, caring and helpful. As a result of our satisfaction, we are planning Everest three high pass Trekking in 2017 April. Thank you very much to Luxury Holidays Nepal and all the best for your bright future in trekking and adventure operations in Nepal.

Health Issues:

We recommend you take pills for diarrhea, cold, fever and nausea.

Tips:
A general rule of thumb for tipping is to USD 40 to USD 70 per Traveler, depending on the length of the trek. Porters do appreciate a personal tip, although it is not uncommon for the Guide and his Porters to pool the tips they have collected before splitting it amongst themselves, with the Guide is getting a little more for overseeing the welfare and safety of both the Travelers and Porters as a whole. That said, this is just a guide and you may tip however much you think is appropriate for the services rendered which made your trip a memorable one.

Note:
1. Please note that often the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight gets delayed by a few hours or may even be canceled for one, two, or more days due to unfavorable weather conditions. Such conditions may arise even in the best seasons. Hence, in such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or end of the trek or even both! We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the next flight for you. We also organize Helicopter rescue in such conditions, if it is available and upon request by our clients. The helicopter charges around USD 3500 and it can lift 4-5 persons per flight. Still, we suggest you to be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible to come with some extra days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything runs smoothly and you still have extra days then you may even engage yourself in optional activities that can be arranged by Luxury Holidays Nepal upon request. The optional activities may include visiting places/landmarks of your choice, adventure sports, shopping, etc.

In case the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of the trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip such as a trek in the Annapurna, Langtang, or any other region. If you are not interested in the alternative trip and would rather wait for your original preferred trip, you are welcome to wait in Kathmandu for as many days as it takes to get a flight to Lukla. However, please note that there will be no refund if you lose time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do a short trek later due to time limitations. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you with accommodation and lunch in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of a flight delay/cancellation after finishing the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transportation, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.

2. During the trip; weather, local politics, transport or other factors, that are beyond our control can result in a change of itinerary. It is however very unlikely that the itinerary would be substantially altered. If alterations are necessary the leader will decide what is the best alternative taking into consideration the best interests of the whole group. Where a change does occur, we do everything we can to minimize its effect.
