Transportation in Nepal

Transportation/Vehicle in Nepal

In Nepal, there are numerous different modes of transportation. There is easy access to the availability of transportation in urban areas. Everywhere has buses, taxis, tempos, vans, and rickshaws. From the city, tourists may readily obtain transportation to several locations, but in the outlying areas, there are only a few options for transit.

Here are some of the options of transportation in Nepal given below:

Metered Taxis are much more common and usually recognized by the black number plate in front and rear. You can get the taxis even at night time, but the fare is a bit higher than in the daytime. You can also get a private car through a travel agent or car/rent agent. The hotels or resorts can also provide you with this service.

Public transportation buses in Nepal are crowded, especially during the holiday season. One can take Micro Bus (Hiace) in the Kathmandu valley, Bhaktapur, Patan and also to other remote areas. Other popular scheduled and well-maintained buses like Makalu Yatayat, Agni Bus, run to and from Kathmandu to all major cities in Nepal. The main bus terminal is located at the Gongabu bus terminal. The new regulations have also introduced the night bus systems in Kathmandu with the various terminal points of its station “Ratri Sewa”(Night Service).

Motor Bikes

Motorbikes are available for hire in Kathmandu's Thamel and Lazimpat area. These motorcycles are generally 90-250cc bikes; the most popular motorbike in Nepal is Hero Honda Splendor. The hotels or travel agents can guide you in detailed ways about the hiring process.

A rickshaw ride gives you the pleasure of roaming around and it's full of fun. It costs cheaper than taxi facilities. You can get rickshaws even in rural areas. In Kathmandu, Thamel, Basantapur and Durbar Marg

Private Car/Jeep/Luxury Transportation

Private cars and jeeps are the most convenient means of transportation in Nepal. These cars and jeeps are largely owned by trekking and tour companies. If you really want a luxurious and comfortable drive to your destination, hire a private car or jeep. A jeep can be shared by 7-8 people and a car can be shared by 3 people.
